Sound Networks are regularly engaged in projects to help their customers move there business forward through the implementation of new IT based systems. We have provided a few examples of the way that Sound Networks work and the way that we can help you.
We were approached by Bailey Employment a local recruitment agency who cover many regions of the UK. They wanted to develop a single website to cover these regions and to provide a more intuitive method of adding, updating and removing job advertisments. Second to this they wanted the website optimised and to be highly visible during any search for jobs in their local regions.
We started by providing a concept design in the form of screenshots from the websites artwork, which was immediately signed off and the project went into development. The bailey website was constructed using the following web authoring technologies:
Cranmore Farm started business last year with just two computers. Initially they had ‘Piggy backed’ their email from another site via Outlook Anywhere and shared files via a peer to peer method. This quickly became unsuitable for various reasons.
They felt that they needed their own domain name for email to present a more professional and less confusing image to their customers and suppliers.
Internet bandwidth was becoming increasingly swamped with the increased use of and dependence on Outlook. Also, being in a rural area they were very much at the mercy of the existing BT telephone infrastructure which could sometimes lead to internet outages, thus losing synchronisation with their shared contacts and calendars.
They needed to add another computer and a laptop, this made peer to peer file sharing more difficult to manage. A regular backup of the important data was required and one that could be automated and taken offsite.
As a solution to these issues Sound Networks installed a server running Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008. This was equipped with an RDX backup device controlled via Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 Small Business Edition.
A new domain name was purchased and the system configured to handle email for that domain. As the new server features Microsoft Exchange 2007 they were able to setup their own shared calendars and contacts which are accessible over the LAN. This means that if the internet goes off, they can still access and synchronise all this information.
With a centralised location for email and data now setup there is the scope for the system to scale quite easily when new computers and users are added to the network. The RDX device provides a regular and reliable backup of all the important data and emails which can be taken offsite. In the event of files being accidentally deleted there is always media available to restore from. Should there be a fire or other disaster in the building that renders the server unusable the important data is available to restore to a new system.
